people like to watch cartoons because they are easily understood
i notice that most people don't like listening to heavy metal
or industrial metal, math metal, black metal, grunge metal, trash metal
or hardcore, scremo, emo or nwobhm
or any kind of metal except perhaps metal ballads
like stairway to heaven
or sweet child o' mine
or november rain
and i haven't even started on rock
i have nothing against pop and techno and dance and hip hop per se
except that it's annoyingly overplayed
sometimes angsty
but mostly padded over with layers of bubble wrap and gum
like dolls in candyland
but pop is easy to relate to
like cartoons with the message staring straight back into one's face
with ideas of music conceived and birthed
as arpeggieos, scales, harmonics in classical overtures
it's hard for the sounds of crunching machines
or feral shouts and screams
to be considered remotely musical
difficult for people to read into alienation, anger, sandy plains
and see beauty and music
beautiful buildings are well crafted fixtures in a city's skyline
nothing less
with straight parallel sides that extend skywards
houses are cottage thatched roofs and red brick walls complete with ivy and morning glories
anything quirky is dispelled as junk and rubbish
unworthy of a second glance
even at the surface
where changes and effects are testimony of the existence of its causes
people learn to ignore these causes
