automatic lights and walking speeds
AUTOMATIC LIGHTS
you know those automatic lights that are triggered by motion sensors?
the kind that are switched on when you walk into or around a room
or at least they usually work that way
well the devil tempts in a similar fashion
except that he wires the lights so that it works the other way
he leads us into darkness, then tempts us with a glimpse of light
and as we follow that which is seemingly good
we burrow ourselves deeper into the darkness
and the light switches off as we approach
because it is a mere illusion of goodness
and we don't ever get satisfied
but end up digging deeper and deeper into the darkness
trying to fill the gaping hole and desire within us
for what is truly good
Jesus said
... "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not
walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
[John 8:12b]
He is the only true light
and the devil uses mere illusions to tempt us
he that is in the world pulls the wool before our eyes
so that we might walk in darkness and be tempted by false lights
the true light never wavers
WALKING SPEEDS
i spent
2 hours and
30 minutes in the wilderness today
for two people to walk together,
they have to be able to synchronize their walking speeds.
the faster person makes a deliberate effort to slow down
or the slower person tries to speed up to keep with the faster pace
when one tries to move faster than one can
one runs oneself ragged and dry
when one slows down to an agonizing plod
to accommodate the pace of another
one gets frustrated with the painfully slowness one is moving at
the shortest distance between two mountain tops is from one peak to another
but to be able to take that path one needs very long legs
God moves from point to point instantly
He moves at great speed
yet He slows Himself down to our plodding pace
so that He might be with us every step of the way
like a proud parent taking the hands of a child
as the child takes baby steps
the parent feels not the pain of the slowness
but the joy of the process
because of love for the child
to God, it's not the end that matters, but the means
he looks at the state of our heart in circumstances
rather than at circumstance itself
if God can love us so deeply as to slow Himself down to our pace
why can't we just carry on, carry on walking?
