happiness depends on happenings, and joy depends on Jesus

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen...
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God,
so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible"
[Hebrews 11: 1, 3]

i used to have little bouts of happiness
happy moments
when for no particular reason at all
i'd just feel perfectly calm
and a quiet serenity will fill me

happiness bouts are sometimes few
and interspersed with many other conflicting emotions

and there are also times
that happiness bouts extend to become periods of happiness
times when i can't keep a smile off my face

no doubt, such happiness
made me feel above everyone else
after all
they were seldom dependent on happenings around me
but rather, on something much more intangible than circumstance

yet
i could similarly be placed in wonderful situations
and feel immensely wretched

to walk about like a zombie
neither perceiving nor judging
responding sluggishly to stimulation

sometimes, i snap because of the happenings around me
mostly, it's just beyond control

i guess this makes me slightly different
in the way i'm wired
my psychiatrist labeled this bipolar. maniac-depressive.

mania, happiness, satisfaction...
that's one thing.
joy, peace, and bliss is another thing altogether
joy is knowing that God loves me
to feel His love, and to love Him in return
joy is unchanging
immutable
because it is dependent on something that does not change
His perfect love.
