Thursday, August 31
bridging the hiatus on the last day of august

an exuberant song of praise
a rhapsody
its language, music
the heart, love and joy

don't forget to love others
don't forget too to love yourself
revel in the simple pleasures of life
and don't hold on to more things that you can bear

sometimes we sing beautiful songs of child-like wonder
sometimes the poet groans under the weight of the world
the burden of being misunderstood
and shunned by those whom he loves
subject to burden by those who love his voice more than they love him
mocked by scoffers who laugh at his pitiful state

rhapsodies are sometimes melancholic
in their subtle undertones
sometimes we cease to sing
because our voices have been caged like animals

the heart cannot be shackled down by heavy chains
what is limitless cannot be constrained by the objective standards of the world
doing so will cause it to writhe in agony
and sorrowful anguish
the cage of the heart is that of fear

the narrow opening by which light streams in
is the erasure of our guilt and shame
through which we are made truly free
