starting with my best foot forward!

i'm amazingly glad that i'm in school
it's just so wonderful to be starting school!
i feel like a spongebob
and it feels good

coming to school with shining bright eyes
determined to put my best foot forward!

i think that there's something sad in the way people walk around with vacant expressions
that they choose to go through the motions of academia
without realising the significance of what they are doing

like being an alien observing people
and seeing them eat lunch
and so you ask what is this lunch thing all about?
and you are answered
well i stick this stuff in my mouth and move my jaws up and down
to break it up into pieces then i swallow
to explain the motions without injecting the soul of the activity
why one does it.
why not do something else.
what is it that makes it worthwhile to spend time on
to have no passion for what one is doing
but just feel an alienation
and it's like a blasphemy, an apostasy,
being given the world and everything in it
and choosing not to live up to what we have

but there's this energy from the intensity and passion of lecturers
people that i can look up to because of their sheer brilliance
or even if they are not brilliant, their love and willingness to stake their lives
to do what they are doing
we spend our lives searching for people we can look up to
not because of how they appear
but because of what they do, and why they do it
i look up to the man who justifies a disciplinary
by his work, and his passion for work

it's a beautiful sensation
to be in an environment where ideas serve as building blocks for more ideas
to be stacked upon one another
i can understand the mentality of people
who spend their lives guarding what they know
who corner information so that it serves only themselves
especially when it results in one sided gains like in economic transactions
where there is information asymmetry
but i pity these people
because they gain without producing
i stare at hours in wonder of the beauty and elegance
of gaining without a loss in utility of someone else
a net gain in efficiency of how resources are being used
and i gape even more idiotically
at how people can be so blind
as to be deliberately oblivious to the joys of the transaction of ideas
where there is only net gain
for ideas have the unique property of multiplying when being divided
there is so much satisfaction in racing with contemporaries
for the prize
while equipping them with the best weapons and armor that you yourself possess
there is no thrill, no exuberance, no exhilaration in beating down someone
with no means of defence
as there is no joy when one does not realise
that we are parrying not for the sake of destruction
but for the sake of carrying truth to greater heights
the aristotleon maxim rings so resoundingly
i love my teacher but i love truth even more

i don't want to squander my wealth away
like the heir who receives a great inheritance
from great predecessors who have worked hard for what they have attained
and taking this inheritance not just for granted
for it's not as felonious to take something for granted
as to be satisfied in leeching off the works of someone
aware that it provides a comfortable living
and to therefore live in comfortable decadence
and let the great inheritance go to waste
to kill the goose that lays golden eggs
and leaving parts of its carcass for people to pick at its bones

so lets start with our best foot forward
face life with exuberance rather than placid vacantness
don't let opportunity pass us by
serve selfishly
don't hide behind a facade of altruism
because man is created not to be altruistic
but to seek joy
and find it in the highest purpose, in God and truth
and to share this joy because it grows and does not diminish when spread across a greater span
but grows explosively
like the expanding universe

if we die, let us burn out
rather than fade away
let us explode in a shower of stars and hope for a new birth
instead of being crushed into a silent heap of dead souls
