Lord, lead me away from temptation... this i cannot bear
"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man;
but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able, but with temptation will also make
the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
[1 Corinthians 10:13]
it's true
focusing on something else other than God leaves me unfulfilled
unsatisfied
like chasing after more of an appetite that cannot be satiated
trying to feed greed with indulgence
it leaves me drained
it makes me weak
it puts me down
it fills me with angst and anguish
the psalmist cries out to God
God, deliver me from my enemies
for he who is tempted by the devil
not by pain and suffering
so that one might curse God for ever putting him on the earth
but by depravity, debauchery and intemperance to vice
so that one might fall to sin
and not be able to clamor out of it
to strike our hearts,
so that we will not even care to work out our own salvation
in fear and trembling
Lord lead me away from such temptation
strengthen me, so that i might have self control
bless me with discernment
so that i might know what is right and what is evil, in your sight
repudiate me, if necessary
rebuke me when i have wronged
i have sinned
and i seek your forgiveness
Lord, i ask why am i unable to put my love on You and You alone?
help me understand
help me see
are these signs from you Lord,
or the attempts of the devil to masquerade as light?
i wait
because Lord i know you will deliver me from my own iniquities
so that i might be made blameless in you
grow me
refine me
strengthen me
