the world is silent
the world is saturated with sound
there are things you find in the rain
a couple in love
a litter of kittens, cold and shivering.
a heap of junk metal that used to be a motorcycle
shattered beer bottles
there are things that you do not hear
the sound of snowflakes and raindrops as they cut through the hazy winter day
the sound of falling leaves and flowers
the light of the street lamps as they hit the ground.
the rustle of movement as he walks past
the old man getting off the bus
the little boy looking up
a woman stroking the head of her baby daughter
the breathing of man, of animals, of plants
the flight of an umbrella as it's carried by the wind
the trace of life
in a pair of ballet shoes
in a cafe on fourth avenue
on the smiling faces of people
in the expression of wonder on a child's face
the world is silent
the world is saturated with sound
the world is dull
the world is loud with pure color
in the world
there are sounds that we cannot hear
lights that we cannot see
for we are blind and deaf
if one day we are neither able to see light nor hear sound
if one day we are unable to feel emotions
love, joy, anger, sorrow, pain
then we will know
this must be hell
where i am so consumed by myself
that i no longer can see and hear the rest of the world
